Positive Behaviour Support Program

Our Positive Behaviour Support Program is designed to understand and address your child’s challenging behaviours.

The focus is to develop proactive strategies that promote positive behaviours and reduce behaviours of concern, to improve the quality of life for your child and the whole family.

Lizard is a registered NDIS provider, and our therapists are registered Behaviour Support Practitioners.

What skills do we teach?

We understand that behaviours of concerns are often a source of frustration, and emotional distress for both the child and their parents. Our initial focus is to develop proactive strategies that reduce problem behaviours. We then teach more positive and effective replacement behaviours.

The Positive Behaviour Support Program is designed to address:

How does it work?

Each program is tailored to the individual needs of your child and family.

Our experienced Behaviour Support Practitioner will design a Positive Behaviour Support Plan which will firstly mitigate risks of harm, and secondly teach your child alternative constructive skills.

Your Behaviour Support Practitioner will then work directly with you as parents, as well as teachers, support workers, support coordinators or other allied health professionals.

Unlike many providers, Lizard doesn’t just build plans; we help implement them too. If required, we can work intensively one-on-one with your child to teach and embed the new skills.

What will you need?

Our Positive Behaviour Support Program lasts for at least 3 months, and is suited to families who have availability for at least 5 sessions over the first month (due to NDIS milestones), as well as the Improved Relationships (IR) funding to support the program.

How our programs work

Our programs are based on the latest evidence-based practices to achieve the best results.

We start each program by teaching the three foundational “learning to learn” skills of communication, toleration and collaboration.

Based on the child and family needs, we then deliver a tailored program of learning on new life skills such as communication, self-care, and social skills.
